I sometimes cite this alongside Incredible Hulk as "nobody's favourite MCU movie," but there's really a lot of stuff here that I think goes underappreciated. Still nowhere near the best, though.

Agreed. Probably not a "favorite" but it was better than I remembered. I went to a triple feature when this came out:Thor, Avengers, and Dark World. It was a decent bookend for the stories.
Also noticed, Thor is about his daddy issues while Dark World is about Loki's mommy issues. One could argue it's about Loki's daddy issues as well.

Sif: I've got this completely under control!
Thor: Is that why everything's on fire?

Volstagg: If you even THINK about betraying him...
Loki: You'll kill me? Evidently there will be a line.

I think the only weak parts of this film are the humans. Without Jane et al this would be a much better film...

I think the humans are the best part! Asgard is so stiff and boring.

The Aether made more sense this time around, since all the later movies have given a better understanding of the Infinity Stones... I think one of my biggest let downs with this is the Malekith... he is very stuffy and serious in this, which is not the Malekith I'm used to from the comics... although, I have limited knowledge of him even in the comics...

The movie is definitely a step up from the first Thor, but it still had issues....
